Chicky and Daisy: “the perfect two cats for me!!!”

April 28, 2012

I discovered how Chicky got his name the first night I brought him home – Daisy (now Abigail) hid under the couch and Chicky found her.  When he did he was “chirping” to her trying to coax her to come out!  I fell in love with Chicky when I saw him at Petco – everyone who walked by his cage had a huge smile on their face.  He has proven to be everything he seemed – loving, gentle, friendly, and did I mention he has a beautiful thick coat – perfect for petting!  Daisy was also a love at first sight who has proven to be the perfect kitty -playful and affectionate as you can see by her photo! Chicky and Daisy love the sliding glass door – perfect for watching the world go by!

Thank you for all of your efforts in rescuing these cats – I am so thankful to have them in my life!  I found the perfect two cats for me!!!  I am thrilled!

Chicklet and Angel: “They act like siblings, they play together, sleep together and eat together.”

April 28, 2012

My wife Sarah and I wanted to adopt a couple of cats.  We had been down to Petco in Union Sq four times before we visited two weeks ago on a Tuesday night.  We fell in love with all the cats but especially Chicklet and Angel.    It was clear when we got them home that Angel was more at ease and Chicklet was very frightened.  We kept them apart for the first couple of days so Chicky could settle down, and within a couple of days they were playing with each other and completely settled.  As with every “family”, the kids take over the home and theres no difference here.  The living room and dining room are covered in toys, the sofa as I type this has two happily asleep kitties.  Both cats are of course completely loved and spoiled.  They act like siblings, they play together, sleep together and eat together.  We are so happy we have them and so grateful to everyone at Kitty kind for all your hard work and dedication.  Chicky and Angel send their love.

Carmen: “She is sweet and very calm, also she is extremely expressive…”

April 28, 2012

Although Carmen is a cat full of personality and with very unusual markings, many people turned away from adopting her because she is FIV+.  But, all it took was someone who was willing to do their research on FIV, and take Carmen home on a “foster” trial basis, and then she was just like any other cat who steals your heart and becomes a permanent member of the family ….

Carmen (now Luna) is doing very very well (except for the fact that she cannot lose weight and has an obsession with food …). She wakes us up everyday 6am to feed her!  She snores a lot and has finally chosen the head of the bed as her sleeping area!  Ha-ha!  We find it very cute how she even catches herself getting so good at the “hunt game” jumping, rolling and slapping and getting scared of her own survival “kit” (she stops, like saying:”Wow! I just did that?”, then runs away!). She is sweet and very calm, also she is extremely expressive and God she has a temper!  Luna is very specific on where she wants to be petted and let’s you know right away when something is wrong (just with a threatening look).

We are very grateful that she is now our family! Here are some pictures, I hope you and the rescuer enjoy!

Best,

Pearl & Jeff

Craig “is by far one of the smartest and sweetest cats I’ve ever known…”

April 28, 2012

After going to the Kitty Kind adoption center in Petco at Union Square many times, there was a cat that always caught my attention. In one of the upper cages there was this big cat named Craig, and on his description read: “Mystery Cat”. How can anyone resist such a title?! They were looking for a foster home (and hopefully a definitive one) that would give them a better idea about this cat that was literally abandoned in a carrier without any kind of information about him.  So my boyfriend and I took the risk and fostered him, hoping to help out and help solve the “mystery”.  Craig turned out to be an amazing cat.  He was house broken and immediately used his litter box, he wandered around and lay down very comfortably soon after.  Later we learned a vet estimated he was around 2 years old, so he LOVES to play with everything! And it’s really fun to watch.  Plus, he turned out to be very sociable, seeking love and attention from every person coming to the house, and he is great with kids. He loves his cat food and doesn’t eat too much, plus he is not interested at all in people food so he couldn’t care less about what we eat and even less about stealing something from the counter.  He loves his toys and doesn’t destroy furniture.  Houdini, his actual name (because he appears when you least expect it), is by far one of the smartest and sweetest cats I’ve ever known and I can’t imagine life without him now.

Panda “is a little ball of energy and playful…”

April 28, 2012

When I got Panda, he was the fourth cat that I fostered through KittyKind. The day I went into Petco to pick up a new foster, the cat I was supposed to take home was adopted right as I got there. I was presented with the option of taking a kitten who was desperate for a foster home because he had tested positive for FeLV and could not stay in the cages because of the health risks it posed to him. I was hesitant, and unsure of what FeLV entailed, and ultimately scared of falling in love with a sick kitten. Panda was a little nugget of a kitten, so tiny and cute that when I saw him, I couldn’t say no to him. I was always interested in long term fosters, and was fine with keeping Panda until he could be adopted into a permanent home. Little did I know that I would fall in love with him, but with that also came so much confusion and stress about being able to keep a cat FeLV+ cat when my living situation as a student was up in air (going home to my parents’ home with our cat there, having roommates, etc). Reading about FeLV+ cats and kittens as well as talking with Miriam and Dawn at KittyKind made me realize that Panda, like any other cat, would be able to live a happy and healthy life for as long as his life may be. When I took Panda into my home, he became no different than any other cat that I had previously taken in, I promised to give him the happiest life I possibly could and that is what I plan to continue to do as long as Panda is in my life. Panda is the sweetest, most loving cat I have ever had, and although it took me a whole YEAR to make it finally official, Panda is all mine. He is a little ball of energy and a playful, funny and very affectionate guy. I am so happy that he is in my life and that I can give him the forever home he deserves!

Sonia & Murzik: “Double the Joy!”

April 28, 2012

Sonia and Murzik reeled us in from the get-go with their distinct personalities. Sonia is an outgoing attention seeker whereas Murzik is more aloof and laid back. They settled in quickly as a pair, exploring all of the nooks and crannies of our apartment with cautious curiosity. Now they roam freely like they own the place and they’re not shy about letting us know they’re hungry! Besides eating, some of their favorite activities include chasing each other down the hallway, wrestling on the guest bed, playing with ping-pong balls in the tub, and sleeping. Sonia meow-purrs at Murzik when she wants him to follow her — it doesn’t always work, but it’s adorable. We’re so grateful to have the two of them. They bring us double the joy!

Prince: “I soon fell in love with his quirky habits”

April 28, 2012

I decided to foster Prince only two days after he was abandoned in a carrier by his previous owner, and KittyKind brought him into their adoption center at Petco.  We knew nothing about him (including if he was a he – he wouldn’t let us look).  Originally, I was supposed to evaluate his personality and behavior and then help find him a forever home with a potential adopter.  He blossomed from a shy and reserved cat who hid or slept all day, into a playful, affectionate and talkative companion.  I soon fell in love with his quirky habits (hanging out in the bathtub, running to the door to meet me when I came home, waking me up at 7:00am) and found that I wanted to be his forever home. Miriam and KittyKind were wonderful enough to let me adopt him. He is the perfect fit and addition to my small family. Thank you KittyKind!

The troublemaking yet beautiful duo: Laverne and Shirley

April 28, 2012

These two beauties have been classified, by a breed specialist, as “Nebelungs,” a naturally occurring, but rare, breed related to the Russian Blue.  Regardless of their lofty status, they were living on the street and in need of rescue, like so many homeless cats!!

Just like the tv show, best friends and roommates Laverne & Shirley are two hilarious, troublemaking, rambunctious sisters with gigantic hearts and loud purrs.  Their favorite past-time is sitting at their window perch – desperately hoping a bird will fly in front of the window or waiting for the garbage truck to make its rounds every morning at 7 AM.  They are completely inseparable and can usually be found either grooming one another or getting into mischief together.  They love to play tag – especially at 3 AM.

Lovey: “We’re totally in love with her”

April 28, 2012

Image

Lovey’s new name is–drum roll please–Benji! (Yes, a girl Benji: When I traveled through Europe many years ago, I met a French girl named Benji, and I thought that was pretty neat. I also wanted a “B” name in memory of Brady.) With Baby Mason, though, we call her Gigi because we think that will be easier for him to say–and we’re sure he’ll be saying it a lot since the two of them are best friends! She likes to sit next to him while he plays (and on the tub ledge at bath time), occasionally even sharing his toys. And the feeling is mutual: Mason’s new thing is crawling over to her when she’s lying down… and resting his head on her belly for a little snooze–two photos of this attached. It’s so heartwarming! And, speaking of Benji’s BFFs, here’s a video of her and Gray giving each other a bath: CLICK HERE TO SEE THEM BATHE! 🙂 (don’t be frightened by the horror movie noises at the beginning; it’s just Mason). Since we adopted Gray to keep Brady company, only to have Brady essentially reject Gray, I can’t begin to express how happy it makes me that Gray and Benji seem to have bonded. And, of course, then there’s me and Jeff: Benji sleeps next to me every night and gives Jeff kisses all the time. We’re totally in love with her, and I still find it amazing how quickly she’s become such an integral member of our family.

Jasmine: FIV+ cat that’s sweet, healthy and active!

April 28, 2012

Image

Jasmine, a brown tabby cat, was rescued by a KittyKind volunteer.  Though FIV positive, she is a very healthy, active cat.  Had it not been for KittyKind (both the volunteer who rescued her and KittyKind itself which promotes the adoption of FIV+ cats), Jasmine would not be the subject of this happy ending!!  Jasmine’s adopter was charmed by her round, sweet face and he concluded, upon research, that her FIV+ status did not detract from their prospects of a good, long life together.

Jasmine is doing great!  I love her so much and she seems really happy in the apartment.  She’s such a sweet cat and she’s been great to have around!!
