Motley and Axl, the Rockstars of the Family

July 27, 2010

The kitties are doing GREAT!! They are eating well and seem happy and healthy.  We have actually re-named them Axl (the boy- formerly known as Kingston) and Motley (the girl- formerly known as Sweet pea). It took them a few days to really get comfortable in their new surroundings but it has truly become their domain now!  They are very sweet and playful.  I work just 3 blocks away so several days throughout the week I will pop in on my lunch break to check on them and give them a little snack, some playtime and TLC. They always awake from their napping right away and are happy to see me.  Then most nights when we come home from work, we have dinner and play and cuddle while we watch some tv.  It has been interesting to watch them become at ease and show their personalities.  Motley is definitely the more brave and dominant one.  She was the first to come out of hiding the first day and venture through the apartment to check out their new home. We have lots of different toys for them.  Their favorite is a ball & bell that is attached to a string on a stick.  They are very talented soccer players and love to play with these little foam bouncy balls we got for them.  When playing, they always want to be playing with the same thing and usually Motely dominates but Axl often comes thru as the champ.  They love to sit in the window and check out the goings-on of 9th Avenue or watch the snow fall.  They have become more at ease with visitors and played and cuddled happily with my mom and sister within 5 minutes of them arriving.  They even came out and played with a group of friends at our house warming party.  They wrestle quite often but sometimes their wrestling matches turn into a licking and love fest!  Motley usually finds herself on my lap in the evenings for some petting and a nap and sometimes Axl gets in on the fun.  Just last night i had BOTH of them taking a nap on my lap snuggling together.  It was so cute!!  We are definitely a very happy family!

Jiles and Jamava, Very Welcomed Additions to the Family

July 25, 2010

Our family was looking for two kittens to join our household (we lost our dear Jocasta at age 18 last spring). My husband first met Layne (now Jiles) and Fortuna (now Jamava) at Petco, and it was love at first sight. The rest of us – our two daughters and I — were equally smitten when we met them. Jiles is bold, athletic, and the fastest Cat Dancer catcher we’ve  ever seen; Jamava is curious, playful, and Jiles’ equal when it comes to wrestling. They are incredibly affectionate, both with each other and with all of us. We were told they’re not siblings, but they might  as well be: their markings are very similar, they share everything, they groom one another, and they sleep wrapped around one another, sometimes on top of our older daughter while she’s reading. We’re all so thrilled to have these gorgeous, delightful cats in our lives, and we’re so grateful to Kitty Kind for all their help and advice, and for all the good work they do!

Maggie, She Stole Their Hearts

July 23, 2010

Maggie is a charming cat who was dumped at the Petco while we were learning about Kitty Kind.  We locked eyes with her and she had us hook, line and sinker. Though timid at first, her quirks and personality came out and she has brought so much joy and laughter into our home! We think she fancies herself more human than cat, as she loves to watch TV and drink out of our glasses. On your average day she can be found licking her lips after enjoying her wet food or intensely stalking her mice. I think we indulge her a little too much, but she stole our hearts – so what can you do?

Mariska, a Good Influence and Friend to Biscuit

July 21, 2010

Here are some pictures of our girls. They are sharing nicely now and I think enjoying each other’s company. Biscuit has stopped attacking us and is better behaved since we got Mariska. Mariska is lots of fun and is affectionate to all three of us.  Mariska can sit on command and we’re learning “up” now.  She knows her name and unlike Biscuit will stop any naughtiness when you call her name.  Everybody seems to be great.

Leek, the Adventurer

July 18, 2010

Leek is doing just fine and is energetic and plays, eats well.  The only problem is that he likes to sneak out into the hallway whenever the front door is opened, we keep a spray bottle by the door now and give him a little shot of water  to try and train him and let him know that the hallway is not for him!!!…

Thank you for offering such a great cat to us for adoption, I hope all of the animals there find good homes to live in also.

Thanks again.

Viva and Edie, Named After Warhol’s Entourage

July 2, 2010

Viva and Edie are doing great. I think the relaxed expressions on their faces in this picture may say it all. They have really made the transition from being the new kitties to being “our pets.” We now call them Viva and Edie, in honor of the fact that our first gray kitty was Andycat Superstar. The Petco is located in a building that housed Andy Warhol’s 2nd iteration of the Factory, so we named them after two of Warhol’s entourage, Viva and Edie Sedgewick.

Viva is the schmoo of the two. She is smaller and very nimble. We call her our monkey, because she gets into everything. She loves chasing a cat dancer with feathers, and we feel sure she would leave no wren alive if in a yard. Edie is more shy, and it took me a few weeks of hard work to get her out of her shell–but it has paid off. She absolutely loves me, where as Viva, the monkey, loves Jim. We often sit with our babies at night, cuddling away. Edie loves to play with the laser pointer toy, and she will run up and down the apartment to chase it (to the point of panting!)

They have both grown since coming to live with us, and their personalities continue to emerge. Viva is easy to love, and is very affectionate. She is very smart, and does funny things. About two weeks ago, Edie started to display jealousy over attention paid to Viva when she pushed Viva out of my lap! Now, if I am holding Viva, Edie will start purr-meowing and rubbing my legs. I have to hold them both at the same time, or pass Viva to Jim. It’s pretty funny, and Edie just sits in my lap and purrs away.

Well, I hope that’s enough–you can probably tell that they are doing very well. I’m glad we’ve had some snow days home with them–they love it when we are home.

thank you so much for such wonderful pets!!!!

All the best, Sarah
