Volunteer of the Month-July

June 30, 2010

Congratulations to Amanda M, our July Volunteer of the Month. Amanda does a wonderful job on the Monday shift; always caring, professional and gentle with the cats. Amanda has been volunteering since August 2009; she moved back to NYC last May and had time on her hands so thought it would be great to help others. KittyKind was recommended to her and she knew after reading the profile, it was an organisation she could support and wanted to be a part of. Her favourite part about volunteering is knowing that each week she makes a difference in the cats lives and ultimately on their future owner, she adds: ‘I also love how cute and cuddly the cats are and I can indulge in my love of being around cats, every time I go in.’ Amanda enjoys volunteering immensely; she looks forward to her Monday’s each week, and is glad she has the spare time to give.  Amanda has always grown up with pets, she has got one cat: Marcello, who is very precious to her.  She wants to say a big thank you to everyone at KK for being so caring and focused about this program. ‘I am honoured to be apart of the team.’ Thank you Amanda for all your dedication and hard work!

This month’s nominations also included: Niccolo S, for all his hard work and being so observant with the cats, Jamie K, for her astute and quick approach, doing assistant rep duties with ease and always staying late if needed, Danielle W, for being such a fantastic addition to the Saturday AM crew, Maria H, for always cleaning with a smile on her face, Tara C, for taking on the challenge of 2 little fosters who needed love and attention, Marie M, for doing such a great job on the Volunteer Newsletter, Rafael O, for getting so many people to adopt from KittyKind and, Davy A, for being so dedicated to the organisation.

Kiwi, a New Home and New Friends

June 26, 2010

We love Kiwi a lot (and our other cat too.)  He is not getting tired of playing and there is no bad toy for him, he likes everything to play with.  Obviously he is so attached to the older cat; once I separated them to see how Kiwi would react and he was crying and looking for his friend everywhere. They eat together, sleep together, make mess around the place together … but we still love them!

Miss Sophia the Sweetest Baby Girl

June 24, 2010

I just wanted to share updates on our adopted cat.
We brought her home in January and named her Miss Sophia (Sophie), which she immediately answered to. My husband and I love her beyond words. I often apologize to our visitors that she is so spoiled! She does everything with us and loves to play all the time. I initially picked her at Petco because she seemed so playful. She L-O-V-E-S her feather flyer and chases balls, plays fetch and frequently drops balls in our view to persuade us to play. She is healthy and happy and has her own bedroom that is full of toys and a big bed to stretch out on, though she does not sleep there. When we say  ” its bedtime Soph” she follows us upstairs and sleeps in her doughnut bed at our feet, and wakes every morning at 5am. She is truly our baby. She is well mannered and gentle and the cutest sweetest baby girl. Here are some photos please share with the Kitty Kind staff.
Thank you!-Tia & Gerald

Volunteer of the Month-June

June 22, 2010

Congratulations to Steve Z, our June Volunteer of the Month! Steve is a dedicated, hard worker and is always willing to help clean difficult cats cages. He is always early for his Tuesday AM shift and gives the cats lots of TLC. Steve has been volunteering at KK for 7 years, he started in 2003!   He loves animals and adds: ‘I get great satisfaction knowing that I am doing my part to keep the KK cats healthy and happy until they find homes.’ Steve loves the affectionate, friendly cats and is happy volunteering at KK. At present he doesn’t have any cats of his own, he used to have a cat that he took in as a stray but she passed away many years ago and unfortunately now his schedule isn’t reliable enough for him to take care of a pet. Thank you Steve for all your hard work over the past 7 years, you have been a true asset to the team, well done!

This month’s nominations also included: Amanda M, for her loving and caring approach to each cat at KK, Nancy A, for all her help in organising and taking part in events, Lucia C, for decorating the Cat of the Month cages and doing a great job, Sarah H, for being a great addition to the Wednesday AM crew, Ariel J, for being such a solid cleaner each and every Thursday PM, Leigh R. for always cleaning with a smile on her face, and Maria C and Anait G, for being super reliable and efficient every Friday PM.

KittyKind Makes a Purrfect Match

June 13, 2010

Dear KittyKind,

hank you so much for introducing me to Chloe [formerly known as Bette Davis], my first pet. Miriam lovingly listened to what I wanted from my first experience with a pet and suggested I meet Chloe in her foster home. From the day I met her, I knew I wanted to make her a part of my family immediately, and eagerly awaited her arrival at my home.

On January 20th, Chloe was delivered to my apartment by foster parent Valerie, who lovingly said goodbye and gave us her favorite treats and ball as a parting gift.

Miriam and Valerie continue to be supportive family members to Chloe and me.

Ever since that day we have created an inseparable bond that I cherish deep in my heart. She is playful and loving and we snuggle together daily. Chloe wakes me up in the morning by coming up to my chest and greets me at the door when I get home.

I love her dearly…from how she follows me around the apartment rubbing her head against my legs to when she chirps as she jumps on the bed or couch to lie by my side.

Thank you, again, for giving me the possibility of bringing Chloe into my family.

Rose, Love at First Glance (and Meow)

June 11, 2010

I met Rose in late March 2010 and fell in love with her at the first glance; she meowed at me and the bio that her fosterer wrote told me that she would be my dream cat. But, I had to think about adopting her for a while as I kept getting scratches and hisses every time I visited her at Petco. Finally, in mid-April, I made up my mind and went back to Petco.  The adoption rep suggested that I should try having her at home first by fostering her for a few weeks.  I thought that was a great idea; in that way, both Rose and I can know each other better in a more comfortable environment.

Rose became fully adapted to my house and was ever more fabulous than she had been described in her bio.  She has been a wonderful daily companion in my life; she wakes me up in the morning for breakfast, cuddles up to me when I am working, and even follows me to bed when I go to sleep.  I believe wholeheartedly that both of our lives have improved through this companionship.  I thank KittyKind to give me such an amazing opportunity to meet Rose and for all the support that the members provide to make my time with Rose safe, comfortable and enchanting.

I welcomed her in early May officially to my home and celebrated her arrival with a bunch of roses.

It was mutual, love at first sight.

June 9, 2010

It was mutual, love at first sight.  Who could resist those big green eyes, pink, nose, and lush white fur.  As I petted him his loud purr let me know that we would do just fine together.  Jasper adjusted easily and is playful and adorable to watch as he jumps to catch feathers, chases balls and stalks his catnip mouse.  He enjoys looking out the windows with fascination as birds fly through the trees and the world goes by. He is a sweet and docile boy who displays his affection by curling up next to me and asking to be petted.  Jasper is a loyal companion and a true pleasure.  I can’t imagine how this could be a better match and I thank you Kitty Kind for bringing this bundle of joy into my life.

Amber, an Instant Mush

June 6, 2010

When we brought Amber home, she was instantly a mush!  She was a little scared after we went to sleep the first night and we found her hiding under the kitchen sink the next morning. But she grew comfortable very quickly!  Every time we walk into another room she follows us and she sleeps at the foot of our bed every night 🙂 She loooooooves playing with her mouse.  We are so happy we brought her home!  She’s the perfect kitty for us!

Eliot, a Bundle of Love and Kitty Kisses

June 4, 2010

As you can see from the attached picture Eliot and I are getting along famously! He is a bundle of love and kitty kisses. He is a joy and I am having trouble getting anything done (including returning e-mails) because all we do is cuddle and play.  His appetite seems great and he seems right at home. I had some friends over last night to meet him and decorate the Christmas tree and they couldn’t stop holding him and saying how beautiful and sweet he was. I can’t imagine my home without him. It seems everything happens for a reason, huh? Oh and by the way, he is now coming to the name Henry…
