Volunteer of the Month-April

April 29, 2010

Congratulations to Sarah W, our April Volunteer of the Month! Sarah has stuck in there and been a great help to the cats via the Assistant Rep position. Sarah has been volunteering at KK for about a year and a half, she works near Petco and used to come in all the time to visit the cats, she soon decided it would be great to become a volunteer.  She says the best bit about volunteering is freeing up the Adoption Reps to do more adoptions, she adds ‘I love watching kitties go home to great families’.  Sarah has 3 cats of her own Max, Strummer and Milo, they came from KittyKind and she adores them all. Thanks Sarah for all your hard work and dedication, you are great!

This month’s nominations also included: Angela S, for her dedication and being a wonderful addition to the Sunday PM cleaning crew, Michie for his hard work and always helpful attitude to the Sunday PM crew, Alice K, for being a part of the Saturday morning Meds team, Gina H, for constantly checking in and giving extra love to our cat Pito, Josette H, for helping out with the stats that are a vital part of our process, Maria H, for being a great help to the Thursday AM cleaning crew, Aleta D, for working hard each and every Tuesday AM, and Allison C, for her hard work fostering, and cleaning on the Thursday PM crew.

***Winners are chosen at random from all nominees.

Puck, a VERY Special Happy Ending at KittyKind

April 27, 2010

When it was time for Puck to be taken home from KittyKind, it took several people, a tough pair of gloves and a rolled-up blanket to get him (yowling and spitting all the way) into his carrier.  A crowd actually gathered and applauded as soon as they had finished the job.  When I let him out into his new home, however, the turnaround was instantaneous.  He immediately began to purr loudly and bump his head into everything in sight — legs, walls, couches, you name it — and he has not stopped doing either of those things since he’s been here.  He is CONSTANTLY affectionate, whether it’s curling up on top of my hands while I’m on my laptop, climbing onto my lap for a cuddle on the couch, or waking me up by purring in my ear in the morning until I give him a head scratch.  He follows me back and forth around the apartment wherever I go, endlessly curious in whatever it is I’m doing, and always runs over to greet anyone when they come in the door.  He definitely still lives up to his name — his Puckish personality shines through when he tries to climb the shower curtain or fiendishly bats glasses of water off the table, but he quickly realizes when he’s done something wrong and apologizes with a head nudge.  His epic battles with his catnip toys and maniacal stalking (and capturing) of his own tail are a constant source of entertainment and amusement to me and anyone else that has met him.  I am amazed by how much he’s mellowed out and cheered up since he’s come home — it’s really a testament to how far some space and love can go in opening up an animal’s personality.  I’m so happy I got to be the one to discover the fantastic cat hiding behind the fearful exterior I saw in the beginning.  I think he’s happy too.  Thanks to KittyKind for making it possible!

Scout, Playful and Quite the Sprinter

April 18, 2010

We are enjoying our new addition very much indeed!  We renamed her ‘Scout’ after the character in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’  She is quite rambunctious and playful (and quite the sprinter!), but loves to cuddle with us on the couch and snore a bit.  We have windows in every room of our apartment, so she is loving observing the outside world from various perches.  She is truly one of the cutest cats EVER!  (Next to Millay, of course…)

She and Millay have had free reign of the apartment for about two weeks.  Millay has grown accustomed to the “young upstart” in her life, and we actually feel she is adjusting VERY well.  They eat at the same time.  (The great thing is that Millay was on a dry food diet, and she has adopted wet food BEAUTIFULLY (and Bryan and I feel like better parents now!!))  There was some hissing and growling on Millay’s part at first, but now she simply watches Scout carefully.  She definitely doesn’t hesitate to let the kitten know if she’s overstepped the bounds!!  The other day, they actually played together for the first time!  It was amazing!

Just want to say how wonderful all of you guys are at Kitty Kind – this was such a seamless adoption process, and everyone has been incredibly thorough, helpful, and kind!

Gracie brings a Real Sense of Grace to the Home

April 1, 2010

Georgie Girl (who I named Gracie, which I hope is okay!) is PRECIOUS!!  I am so, so happy to have her here with me.  She has made herself at home — she loves snuggling in the bed, sitting in the windows (which are completely screened!) and playing with her cat nip toys.  She is honestly the sweetest, funniest, and most well behaved cat I’ve ever had.
Thank you so much for bringing this adorable little girl in to my life!
